Ok I have had the Iphone 4s for less than two days but I figured I’d give initial out of the box impressions.
It’s fast.
-The new A5 inside (like that non intel spin?) really beefs up the phones performance. I know, I know I’m coming off a crappy 3Gs that was barely hanging on for dear life, but wow is the speed difference nuts. It’s just way snappier. Apps load almost instant, where as before you may be faced with a holding screen for a few seconds while it loaded even prior accessed info.
-The camera…well anything is an upgrade from the camera in the previous iPhones. For mobile instagram fanatics this camera will be sure to please. Now please note, that owning this phone or instagram does NOT make you a photog. I haven’t really run this camera through its paces, but it loads quicker (probably thanks to the processor and ram upgrades). Gone are the days where you ALMOST missed that hilarious squirrel falling off its branch, now you might catch it mid fall!
-Antenna, well…its stellar. I’ve heard rumors that here in Charleston it’s kind of like no mans land for cell reception, and the 3Gs was struggling in a lot of places but I’ve noticed quite a few more bars in places with bad reception! I bought protection (a bumper) so I don’t know if me and the phone have any actual chemistry to cut out the reception.
-Siri is a pretty quick learner. I was able to talk and have her type a tweet and a few address entries for me right away, little to no mistakes. I did ask her if she would cuss and she didn’t know what I was talking about, so she’s got a little bit to learn. Still a pretty freaking cool feature if you ask me, I even told her thank you…We’re one step closer to Space Odyssey 2001, pretty sure that this is HAL’s girlfriend.
-64 Gigabyte storage is phenomenal. Seriously…now I can have my cake and eat it too. That was probably one other thing that made my 3Gs a little sluggish, I was a gig away from being maxed. Now i can load most of my listenable music and maybe even a movie or two for those moments when I need longer entertainment than a tweet can provide.
-Screen resolution, hasn’t changed from the 4, but my goodness is it a nice upgrade from the 3Gs. I don’t have to hold it 5 inches from my face to read things clearly!
-iOS5. well if you haven’t upgraded yet, do it. While it isn’t a 4s only feature it provides some really nice updates, and icloud wireless syncing is where it’s at. No more plugging into my computer!
So these are initial impressions out of the box, I may discover a few other niceties as I begin to power use the phone. If you’re due an upgrade and are holding on to your 3Gs for dear life, let me encourage you to let it go, keep it as a back up if you must, because at worst it’s better than a flip phone!
