VBS at the Beach

This summer has started off CRAZY, and by crazy I mean crazy awesome. I have been stretched in ways I didn’t think possible, but this is a good thing. Since joining the children’s team I have gotten the pleasure of being creative visionary for VBS this year.

VBS took us with a theme of Son Surf Beach Bash, and a beach theme is easy to pull off with beach balls, blow up this and that, but I decided to take it a wholly different direction and add some big focal pieces.

The first of which was for our sign up/promotion fair for summer events.

Also in that group is a beach ball topiary that was created to line the halls. Great idea, but kids pounded them to pieces by the end of week. Those were simple to make, but were really cool and we used them week of VBS! Hopefully we can rescue what is left and make some table center pieces since the ministry logo contains beach balls.

I also took on some graphic elements to set the whole thing off. Shown is the

After the ministry fair we had a few weeks to get the next big promo piece in house which was an 8ft tall by 7ft wide sand castle. This was a conversation piece for three weeks before VBS started, getting people pumped about what was coming, and acted as a photo spot during VBS.

Then there was the VBS stage pre-prepped and built all by some awesome volunteers who helped out.

This was a big undertaking, and I was so glad for creative freedom to be able to run with it all. One thing I noticed is that we were able to create a TON of excitement and momentum from the very beginning because our staff was excited and energized and that transferred into our volunteers, and that transferred into the families looking to come to VBS! God did a huge thing mobilizing so many people so early!

Here is our church’s vimeo site with some shots of it in action!!! Enjoy.
